Working with the Community: Acorn Farm

In an effort to be more socially aware, we are pleased to announce a new working partnership with a local charity, Acorn Farm.

Acorn Farm is a small, local charity which was established 35 years ago.  They are situated on the Knowsley Business Park North with a 4 hectare farm which is open to visitors 7 days per week. Their aim is to provide a quality, affordable and inclusive visitor attraction for local people as well as providing meaningful activities for people with learning disabilities.

Attractions include a wide variety of farm animals to stroke and feed; two children’s play areas; a sensory garden and woodland walk. At weekends and during school holidays additional attractions include a small animal petting area and horse rides.

Over the last 2 years it has been tough for many businesses and even tougher for charities. In order to assist Acorn Farm and allow them to continue to do the great work they do for the community, we are more than happy to supply them with a year’s free fuel oil.

In order to be accessible to everyone regardless of their financial situation, we strive to keep all of our charges and costs to a minimum.

When the first Lockdown happened in March 2020 we had to close our gates to all. This meant that we had no income but all of our animals still needed caring for in terms of feed, medication, vet bills etc. Additionally, the animal care staff still needed paying.

As the farm site is small we were not able to open again, keeping visitors and staff safe, until July 2021. This meant we had a full 16 months with very little income.

We were very worried as the winter approached as to how we would manage to continue to pay our numerous bills, particularly as the price of fuel had increased dramatically. The workers on the farm who include our hard working team of people with disabilities frequently get cold and wet numerous times a day. The animals still need to be cleaned, fed and watered whatever the weather. Similarly, our visitors, many of whom are young children frequently get cold and wet while looking around the farm. So it is essential that the café is warm.

Just before Christmas we were amazed and so very grateful when Standard Fuels offered to donate a whole year’s supply of fuel oil for FREE!! It was the best present we could have asked for.

We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to this big hearted local company who have shown such kindness and compassion to a small charity on their doorstep. Their generosity has been a big help in enabling us to continue to do the work which we do with and for the local community.

Standard Fuel have staff members who regularly visit the farm with their families and we hope to continue to do so for years to come.
